Receiving your IRS tax refund is one of the most anticipated moments of the year. The fastest, safest, and most reliable way to receive your money is through direct deposit straight into your Varo Bank Account. By direct depositing your refund with us, you can receive it up to 5 days early!¹
To deposit your tax refund with Varo, you’ll need two essential pieces of information: the Routing Number and the Account Number.
This guide will show you exactly how to locate these numbers within the Varo app or website and how to use them when filing your tax return.
Get your refund faster
How long does a tax refund take? How fast do you get a tax refund with direct deposit?
While the average time for a tax return direct deposit varies based on when the IRS accepts your return, direct deposit remains the quickest method of receiving your money. The IRS typically issues most refunds in less than 21 calendar days from the date of acceptance, which is significantly faster than waiting for a paper check to arrive by mail.
Ensure that your refund direct deposit date is as early as possible. By directly depositing your tax return with Varo, you can get paid up to five days early¹.
The two essential numbers you need
For any direct deposit, you must correctly provide two specific numbers to the IRS or your tax preparer. To avoid a delay in your refund, find your routing and account numbers by following these steps.
1. The Varo routing number
What it is: This nine-digit number identifies Varo Bank, N.A. It tells the IRS where to send the money.
Key Point: This number is the same for all direct deposits into Varo accounts.
Varo’s Routing Number: 124303201
2. Your account number
What it is: This is your unique number that identifies your personal Varo Bank Account.
Key Point: This number is different for each Varo Bank Account.
Locating your Varo information
You can easily find your account number and routing number right within the Varo app in just a few seconds.
Log into your account: Log into your Bank Account on the Varo app or website.
Navigate to Account Details: Click My Varo then go to Manage cards and accounts > Account numbers.
Locate the Numbers: From here you will be able to see Varo’s routing number, along with a toggle to display your account number.
Secure Your Info: Be sure to copy and paste or accurately write down both the routing number and the account number. You will need them to complete your tax return form.
How to use your Varo info when filing
Once you have your Varo account and routing numbers, you're ready to complete the direct deposit section of your tax return, whether you use tax preparation software or file with a professional.
Tax Software: When you reach the refund section, select the Direct Deposit option. The software will ask for the bank's routing number first, followed by your account number.
Paper Filing (IRS Form 1040): You will manually enter the numbers on the designated lines (currently Schedule 1 or similar forms, but always verify the exact line numbers on the current IRS form).
What if I need to change or correct my information?
It is crucial to enter the correct information the first time. The biggest delay for many filers comes from needing to correct their bank account number on a tax return.
Before Filing: If you notice a mistake before submitting your return, simply go back and correct the numbers in your tax software.
After Filing: The ability to change direct deposit info for tax refunds after filing can be limited. Once the IRS accepts your return, they begin processing the refund. You generally cannot change direct deposit info once it's been submitted. If there is an error, the IRS usually attempts to deposit the money, and if it fails, they will mail a paper check, which significantly delays the process.
