Most of us are spending more time at home than usual. This article is all about how you can redecorate your space without breaking the bank to do it.

1. Declutter your living area

Too much stuff makes a room feel cramped.

If you haven’t done a declutter in a while, start looking at things to throw away or donate. Include furniture and larger items can be purged, too.

Create two piles: one for donation and one for recycling. This way nothing you get rid of will go to waste.

After a good declutter, you’ll have a lot more breathing room.

2. Change the layout of your room

If you haven’t moved your furniture since you moved in, it might be time to rearrange the space.

How could the room work better? Try moving stuff around to increase walking space. A few vital inches can make all the difference in comfort.

3. Find new uses for things you already have

Look around your house to see what you can work with before buying new stuff.

For example, a big glass jar can make a perfect kitchen utensil holder. That basket hidden in your closet could turn into a cute container to store extra blankets at your bedside.

The same goes for furniture. If you have a table that holds a couple of plants, transform it into a desk where you can work from home. Or turn your ottoman into a double-duty coffee table and footrest.

4. Create a collage wall with art you own or make

If you have fun printouts from your French class or photos you have been meaning to put in frames, pin them up on the wall. They don’t need to be framed to look nice.

5. Use leftover paint

You know that quarter-can of white paint gathering dust in your closet to create a faux headboard behind your bed or a backsplash in your kitchen.

Or just repaint some old furniture. If you’re going this route, be sure to check some YouTube tutorials, so it doesn’t flake off in six months.

6. Clean your space

Sometimes a deep clean is all an old room needs to feel new.

Sweep up all the dirt from under the bed and behind the furniture, wipe off all the surfaces, do all your laundry, and spend a little time organizing your things.

Taking time to clean your room will help make it feel more fresh and inviting—and all it will cost is a few hours of your time.

Refresh your apartment today

We’re all spending a lot more time at home these days. So it’s important to make sure the space works for you.

Don’t worry about saving up for a total apartment makeover. You can make major (free) improvements to your living space in a short time. Rather than spending money that could be going elsewhere, try re-working what you already have.

That way, your savings account can stay as happy as you’ll be in your revitalized apartment.
